Pronounced (Ch-ee), Qi is the one of the most foundational concepts of Chinese Medicine and one of the most difficult to translate. It can be described as the vital energy of the body that circulates in the acupuncture channels or meridians. It is also so much more than that. It is the most basic substance that compromises the world and the movement and changes of Qi determine the state of the world and the health within the body. Qi has various functions within the body such as transforming, transporting, holding, raising, protecting and warming. The focus in acupuncture is to balance the Qi within the body to create more harmony and body communication.
